Little less of a shark boy

Xander lost his first baby tooth last night around midnight. It had been very loose for the last two days. Every time I would try to move the tooth, Xander said it hurt, so we just left it alone. Xander said he woke up last night and it felt funny, so he just pulled it out. There was a long sharp piece of root that was still attached at the front of the tooth that was probably what was hurting when we tried to move the tooth. The tooth fairy should come tonight.

Pumpkin carving

Sunday night we had two pumpkin carving parties to go to. The first was at Dalton's house where we (i.e. Tina) did most of the pumpkin carving. This picture is actually the boys helping one of the neighbors with their pumpkin. Then we went to Retta's house (of the famous Retta Show). We had some yummy stew and no knead bread and Suzanne gave us a personal tour of her front yard garden.

Saturday we baked the two sugar pumpkins the boys got at the pumpkin patch, scooped out the flesh into the food processor and made 6 cups of pumpkin puree. I froze four cups and made a pumpkin pie with the last two cups. We used a recipe that called for 1/2 and 1/2 and eggs and no evaporated milk, so it was very much like a pumpkin custard. It was very good.

Interesting glasses

We went to Maker Faire today. It was great fun to see all the cool stuff people make. We made and flew paper kites, played with remote-controlled robots, watched robots fight each other in an arena, and generally marveled at all the cool crafts.

These glasses had LEDs that would blink at different rates and create interference patterns visible through your closed eyelids. The boys thought this was really neat!

We also ran into a surprising number of people we knew! Small world.
