Indian food

On Sunday, I cooked up my usual combo of Indian food that I know how to cook: chicken curry, paripa, and spinach thoran. As an added treat, the new HEB had banana leaves, which is the traditional way to serve this food, usually done at weddings.

When we went looking for the banana leaves at HEB on the Saturday before, there weren't any out where I had seen them before. I asked a guy in the produce department where they were, and he said that he would check. It turns out they had run out, and had only one box left. He gave me a bag from the box (which contained something like 4 full-size leaves) for free since they were starting to turn brown. I managed to salvage some good pieces out of them for dinner!

Sleep Over

Xander had his first sleep over last Friday night. When I picked up the boys from day care, I also picked up Colby and brought three boys home with me instead of two. Colby is a great kid who is a year older than Xander and the only one of Xander's friends I would consider having at my house for the night. I had to stop at the doctor to pick up some meds, so we all walked the labyrinth at the hospital near our house. I believe the labyrinth is supposed to be a meditative way to relieve stresses, but the boys took off running and even walked over some of the small rock walls.

When we got home the boys played puzzles and put on costumes and even changed into swim trunks and swam in the pool in the back yard. After swimming, we went to McDonalds for dinner. After eating chicken nuggets and french fries and drinking lemonade, the boys played on the McDonalds playscape. Duncan even climbed to the top, but he had trouble getting down.

We went home and played with the neighbors in the front yard for awhile. It was hard keeping track of another kid. After bath, I let Xander and Colby watch a video and it was 9:30 before they got to bed. Xander and Colby played and talked and did not go to sleep until after 10pm. We paid for this the next day. We went to see Cars and half was through Xander was tired and wanted to go home. By the time the movie was finished, Xander was in tears he was so tired. Duncan was also tired - he fell asleep in my arms about 15 minutes before the movie ended (sooooo cute). We quickly took Colby home and put Xander to bed for a nap.

I think our first sleep over was a success, but it is going to be awhile before we have another one.

Kid's computer

I bought myself a new Shuttle at the beginning of the year with a plan to give my old one to the kids to play with when we could find space for it in the craft/computer room. Well, Tina just found an adorable kids folding table and matching chairs at Walgreens for cheap, so I finally set them up. Xander and Duncan both love playing the demo of Spiderman2 I have installed on there.
