Chess

This Saturday, I took Xander to a classmate's birthday party at the Austin Children's Museum. It was quite chaotic, but there was lots of interesting things to do, as every display was interactive.

Xander passed a giant chessboard, and he asked me, "Daddy, can we play that, please?" So, I showed him how each piece moved and walked him through a game. Then his friend, Mason, came along and wanted to play, too, so I taught him the rules, too, and just coached them as they chose their moves. They had so much fun, that they complained when it was time to return to the party room for cake!

I had a great time teaching them. We'll have to see if Xander retains any of it... Apparently, there is a chess club at the elementary school he will attend this fall.

Father's Day 2007

For Father's Day this year, Tina arranged a trip for all of us on the Bertram Flyer, a train ride from Cedar Park to Bertram, TX. The steam train was broken, so we had a diesel engine, but it was still a great time. We took a three hour ride there and back in an open car, where we could enjoy the sights of the Hill Country.

For dinner we went to Churrascaria Estancia, a Brazilian steakhouse. I really enjoyed sampling the tasty meats that were brought around to our table on skewers. The place was packed!

After dinner, I took the boys to Austin Scoops for an ice cream dessert.

All in all, it was a great Father's Day.
